The Chiss were a tall, blue-skinned near-human civilization from the planet Csilla in the Unknown Regions, best known as the people to which Grand Admiral Thrawn belonged. Due to the remote position of their home territory in the Chiss Ascendancy they remained largely an enigma to the rest of the Galaxy.
Physiology and Culture
The Chiss and baseline humans regarded each other as aliens, but genetic studies have indicated that the two peoples were close biological cousins. Outwardly, the Chiss were distinguished from baseline humans by three clearly visible traits: blue skin, midnight-black hair, and glowing red eyes. Their blood, however, was red.
Even in the era of the Galactic Alliance, the wider Galaxy seems to have had no direct contact with Chiss civilians. They mediated largely through encounter with military units, and through a few high-level contacts with political and diplomatic delegations.
Chiss had a rigid, disciplined society. They did not show signs of decadent or greedy behavior. Their society is controlled by four ruling 'families' -- not true families but effectively branches of government. Chiss code of conduct forbids them from striking first. However, once attacked, the Chiss do not rest until their attackers are destroyed or completely subjugated
Role in LOTJ
The Chiss are disciplined, cold and arrogant. They always strive for any tactical or social advantage. Chiss who mix with non-Chiss are always plotting tactics to ensure their victory. They also show a great deal of interest in the art and sciences of other cultures, studying them to gain insight into their potential enemy.
Chiss have a broad range of talents, most often finding expression as soldiers or combat pilots.
Chiss can speak Galactic Basic only the rare Chiss who enters Galactic Space would ever learn it.
